If you've ever been on the internet, you might know there are a number of controversial topics that the world enjoys getting upset about.

Like parents talking about rules for their kids, discipline... and how to make an after school snack like fairy bread.

We kid you not.

From how to get the sprinkles on, to whether to cut triangles or squares, there is apparently a lot to consider about fairy bread... and now, an American mum is trying to change the recipe.

She's basically ruined our national meal with her strange twist - and Aussies are not here for it.

Mum ruins fairy bread in TikTok

Alicia Dougherty, who posts on social media under the Dougherty Dozen because of her 10 kids, shared a TikTok of herself preparing an after-school charcuterie board for her hungry family.

It would be remiss of us not to mention that Alicia's clip was for a spread called Creamy Cinnamon spread, which she used instead of butter.

(Fairy bread is usually made by buttering white bread, adding sprinkles and then cutting it into triangles.)

Showing fans how she makes an "after school snack for her kids", then she does celery sticks/ants on a log, fairy bread, and apple smiles - all with the spread she's promoting.

Now, that's fine, 'cos Mama's gotta make a living.

But must she ruin a sacred recipe that's held in the hearts of an entire country? And do it so gleefully?

Australians could not cope with the substitution

The clip gained a lot of attention for a reason Alicia most likely did not anticipate.

"As an Australian I'm both offended and disgusted by her actions in this video," one viewer wrote.

A second added, "I am disgusted as an Australian, ruined a perfectly good snack. BUTTER ALICIA BUTTER."

Another blasted: "You've offended Australia. That is not fairy bread. PLAIN BUTTER, BREAD AND SPRINKLES ONLY!”

And finally, one viewer made this decree: "So excited to see fairy bread on there until it was butchered. White bread. Butter. Sprinkles. No substitutions allowed."

Got it? No. Substitutions.

Let this be a lesson to anyone thinking of messing with fairy bread in the future.
