‘I put my baby in the bath then realised my mistake - I’m the worst mum ever’

“I wasn't going to share, but I feel like it's important to share so other moms know that this can happen,” Holly confesses in the viral video.

It was a week after giving birth to her second son that Holly decided to give him a bath.

She headed to the attic, where she kept all of her baby-related stuff from her first pregnancy.

Grabbing the baby bath, she filled it with water and washed her week-old infant.

But after she took him out, she realised she had made a “disgusting” discovery.

Mum issues warning after accidentally washing baby in mouldy bath

“I washed my baby in mould - I’m the worst mum ever!”

The American mum-of-two shared a video on TikTok explaining how the incident happened.

“I’m the worst ever,” she captioned the video.

“I wasn't going to share, but I feel like it's important to share so other moms know that this can happen,” she explained.

“He's my second baby, and so I had all the baby stuff stored in the attic, and I got it out a few weeks ago, cleaned it all up, and I thought we were good to go.”

But it wasn’t until after she washed him that she discovered the seat was removable. “This is what it looks like with the seat on,” she explained.

Removing the seat of the baby bath, she showed dark watches on the seat before flipping the plastic upside down, showing even more mould.

She said that she feels like “the worst mum ever” and doesn’t know if it’s worth cleaning or throwing away.

“I guess I'm gonna try bleaching it,” she concluded.

“You’re not a bad mum - that’s a poorly-designed product”

The video has attracted more than 1.6 million views, with thousands of mums horrified by the mouldy discovery.

“Thank you for telling me, I was just about to reuse the same bath I’ve had stored away for the last year and a half for my baby which is due next month,” shared a mum.

“Right after finishing this video, I ran to my bathroom and made sure mine didn’t have any parts that came off,” added another,

Others assured the mum she wasn’t “literally the worst ever” for her mouldy surprise.

“That's terrible!” said another parent. “But you are far from a bad mum, that's just a poorly designed product.”

“It’s okay mama, you’re human!” added a mum.

Many warned her to avid using bleach to remove the mould, and instead opt for vinegar. “Bleaching doesn't get mould away, it just makes it invisible,” warned a parent.

“I kept a bottle of vinegar and water in my bathroom to spray on our tub after every use,” another woman added. “Then I rinsed it after getting my baby dried and dressed.”
