‘I hired a private chauffeur to drive my 5yo daughter to school every day’

“I'd rather invest in peace of mind and avoid feeling overwhelmed,” the mum-of-two said.

Common myths of being a working parent

A mother has defended her reason for hiring a private chauffeur to get her five-year-old to school every day.

Mum Kristina just gave birth to her second child and has been facing serious trouble trying to get her ducks in a row.

Her five-year-old daughter, Arina, recently started primary school, making their mornings extra stressful.

Mum hits back at trolls for hiring a chauffeur to drive 5yo to school every day

“I need all the help I can get”

Between getting her daughter ready for school, putting the kids in the car and everything in between, it quickly became overwhelming for the American mum.

“With a newborn who hates the car seat and screams the whole ride, it's just too much stress for all of us to handle every morning,” she said in the TikTok clip

So she had a solution: hire a private chauffeur for her daughter.

Every morning, the driver picks her 5yo up and drives her to school, leaving Kristina to care for the newborn uninterrupted.

“I'm already struggling to keep it together, and I don't want to let my stress affect my support for my 1st grader,” she said. “With returning to work in a few weeks, I need all the help I can get.”

Her decision hasn’t gone without controversy, even from her own family.

“Of course, a close relative shamed me,” she said. “Saying we’re wasting money and that everyone does it themselves without help.

“But honestly, I'd rather invest in peace of mind and avoid feeling overwhelmed.”

Kristina hit back at those who criticised her for hiring a private driver.

“Do you think I'm wasting money and being weak?” she asked the audience. “What would YOU be willing to pay for to make life easier instead of doing it yourself?”

A mixed bag of reactions

The video quickly attracted over 170,000 views, and the replies were mixed, to say the least.

The thought of letting a stranger drive a 5yo to school was unfathomable to most, who said they would “never ever” hire.

“Wait, is her driver an adult man!?” someone asked. “I would literally, never for one second, even consider that.”

“My only thought is, do you personally know this man?!” another quizzed the mum. “Your sweet baby is at risk if you don’t.”

But others adored the idea.

“I see nothing wrong with this,” a person wrote. “If you feel comfortable with the driver and know him and can afford it. Good for you.”

Others said: “Whatever works for your family is what’s best”.

“Oh, this is not weak,” a third wrote. “This is you being a good mother to both children and being good to yourself.”
