‘I do my kids’ homework for them so they don’t get stressed’

“I know every parent helps, but if my kids are busy, I will do it for them because I’m not going to have them worry over four maths problems they don’t have time to do,” the mum reveals in a viral TikTok.

Lottie is the first to say that a lot of parents won’t agree with her methods.

The mum-of-three is affectionate with her husband in front of her kids, she had two of her three daughters at home, she practices radical honesty with her girls, and she does their homework for them.

In a viral TikTok called “Controversial things we do as parents”, Lottie explained her reasoning for not making her girls knuckle down and do their work.

“I will help do my kids’ homework with them,” Lottie explained in the video.

“I know every parent helps, but if my kids are busy or they’re rushing, I will do it.”

She said the stress wasn’t worth it.

“I’m not going to have them stress over four maths problems they don’t have time for… I will do it. It may not be right,” she added, laughing.

She said that in addition to time pressures, some of her kids’ school projects were simply too hard.

“I the majority of their projects for them. Some of these projects these teachers give… I mean, the kids are seven years old.”

I do my kids homework for them'

Mum divides internet with homework policy for kids

Doing her kids’ homework for them isn’t the only controversial parenting rule Lottie has.

“My biggest goal in life is to have the most honest relationship with my kids,” she said.

The first was about honesty, and is perhaps not so controversial.

“I tell them all the time, I don’t care what you did. You could have run over a cow, robbed a bank, I just want you to be honest and talk to me.”

Another rule was around affection with her husband.

“Obviously we keep it appropriate, but my husband and I are very affectionate in front of our children,” she said.

“I feel that’s one of the keys to a healthy relationship.”

Lottie said that when you’re in the thick of parenting and life is busy and kid-focused, it’s easy to forget about your relationship with your partner. But letting the relationship languish is a big mistake.

“We prioritise our relationship. I tell my kids, one day you’re going to leave me and live your own life. I still have to like your dad when you leave me.”

TikTok divided over parenting rules

Most commenters were supportive of Lottie’s parenting rules, particularly the ones around homework.

“I’m actually impressed you can do your kids’ homework. My parents were always too confused to help,” one person said.

“My mum used to do my homework for me. I literally would stress, and FOR WHAT,” said another.

“With all of these topics you brought up, 100 percent agree. I love this,” said a third person.
