Bride asks maid of honour to steal supplies from work for wedding reception

“I'm paying for everything and it’s the least she can do... if she just grabs them from her employer, it won’t even cost her anything,” the bride said.

What not to do at a wedding

Bride-to-be Leanne has been thinking a lot about how to make her wedding affordable for her bridal party, covering most of the costs so her friends don’t have to pay for things.

The bridesmaids did pay for their dresses to the tune of $100 each, but that was it.

Leanne even had a clever strategy so that her maid of honour, Kelly could help out with supplying items for the reception without having spend any money.

Leanne’s strategy? Kelly should steal from work.

The wedding guest list included a lot of children, and since Kelly was a teacher, Leanne thought it would be easy enough to scoop a few textas, paper, glue and scissors to supply a little craft table to keep the kids busy.

Let’s call it Wedding Logic, in which you get so stressed out trying to plan, budget and pay for a very important event and you start making requests that are socially unacceptable and that you’d never normally make.

Some people might also call it the Bridezilla Phenomenon.

Kelly refused, Leanne balked and took to social media for advice.

“Be honest and tell me if I don’t have a right to be a little upset here,” Leanne wrote.

Explaining about the craft table for kids, Leanne said, “I thought she could set up a small table with coloured pencils, some blank paper and maybe some colouring sheets that she can photocopy at work,” she said.

“I know at her school she doesn’t pay for any of the supplies because I worked with her.”

But when Leanne asked Kelly to help out, Kelly told her she should just buy the items herself.

“I thought the least she could do was grab school supplies that wouldn’t cost her anything,” Leanne said, forgetting that if Kelly was caught, it’s possible the act would cost her her job.

If Leanne was hoping for support, she didn’t get it. After a string of negative comments, she deleted the post, but not before it was reshared on a wedding shaming Facebook group.

“That would be stealing from the school,” one person said.

“You cannot ask people to steal stuff from their workplace for your wedding. LMFAO,” said another.

“Wait she asked her because she is a teacher and thought she would steal from the school for her friend? OMG. What a horrible person,” a third person said.
