Paige Skarratts, the Gold Coast girl who inspired her parents wedding at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, continues her brave fight to beat brain cancer

REMEMBER the little Gold Coast girl whose parents got married in hospital when told she only had days to live? This week she prompted more tears but this time of the happy kind.

Paige Skarratts Fights On

“I DID it. I’m all done.”

And with those six words, little Paige Skarratts has marked another milestone in her amazing story of survival that has touched the hearts of the city.

A little more than five months ago, the youngster’s Pimpama parents held an impromptu wedding at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital after being told their daughter only had days to live due to an inoperable brain tumour.

Having already defied that prognosis, the five-year-old yesterday completed the final treatment in a six-week course of radiation that has given her loved ones further hope.

“She keeps surprising us,” said father Jake Skarratts, who has been living at Brisbane’s Ronald McDonald House with wife Tania, Paige and three-year-old Imogen since early January.

“She keeps throwing the doctors curve balls … they just wanted to stop the tumour from growing but it looks like it could be going the other way.

SANTA MEETS PAIGE SKARRATTS

“The first day we went in for treatment she could barely move and today she’s trying to walk … she gives me strength every day. You see what she’s going through but she comes out every day smiling.

“She rarely cries or complains. She just amazes me.”

Having rung a symbolic bell after completing her final treatment, Paige and her family headed straight home to the Gold Coast and will now await a crucial MRI in mid-April.

“After that we plan to have a holiday,” Jake said. “We can’t go too far ... (but) it’ll just be the four of us.”
