A group of mates are fast-becoming Gold Coast’s latest hospitality giants, launching a new modern Asian eatery in the heart of Burleigh.

KAMI, owned by Mitch and Marcus Ryan and Anthony Bartolo, specialises in share-style plates showcasing the tasty cuisine.

It was little more than five months ago they opened cafe Magnolia Lane, on the same site along the Gold Coast Highway.

“It made sense logistically for us to be able to use the same kitchen, storage but also have the two separate dining spaces,” Mitch Ryan said.

“The site had sat dormant for a while, and it probably wasn’t an attractive prospect for others but for us and what we wanted to do it made sense.”

Mitch and Marcus operate a venue of the same name in Victoria, but knew the Coast was the perfect spot for a second site: “Up here is a bit more of a bar and dining experience. We’ve got a much higher focus on alcohol and cocktails.

“It’s an entertaining dining experience, we want people to come here, be interactive and to know us on a personal level.”

Popular dishes include the chicken karaage, fresh oysters and Bao buns, according to Marcus.

“A lot of the concepts come from Mav, our chef back in Victoria. It’s designed for everyone to share plates. It’s all about bringing people together,” he said.

What’s in store for beloved Nobby’s Shack - March 17

Loyal customers of a popular Nobby’s Beach cafe will from this week be able to enjoy a newly launched dinner service at its new venue.

Nobbys Shack, formerly known as The Shack – Superfood Cafe, shifted to a larger site at the northern end of the busy precinct in January.

Owners Lynda and Adolofo Pimentel said rumours of a development at the former site prompted the move, though they had been looking at new sites for three years prior.

“The main piece of feedback we had about our last site was that we didn’t have enough dining space, so we were looking for a bigger space,” Mrs Pimentel said.

“It’s now a cafe-restaurant and we’re pet-friendly too. We wanted to make this more of a community hub, where everyone can come and enjoy good food and beverages.”

An outdoor dining area fit with kids’ play equipment sits at the building’s rear, while inside seating lines the walls as well as its alfresco-style.

Customers can enjoy some of their favourite dishes as well as a few new selections.

“We’ve ramped up a few things,” Mrs Pimentel said. “For instance, the Thai Style Eggs, it now comes with the lemongrass chicken. We’ve kept our Buddha Bowl and also introduced an okonomiyaki-style pancake, some salads and kids waffles which have been going off.”

On Saturday, it will launch its dinner service from 4-10pm. Tapas and alcohol are on the menu for the fully-licenced venue.

“Profits that we make that night will be going to flood victims, we haven’t been able to get down there and help so this is our way of doing that,” Mrs Pimentel said.
