A SWAG of new businesses are set to open in Nobby Beach in time for the peak summer tourist season, cementing the suburb as the Coast’s hipster capital.

Restaurant wars: trendy vs traditional?

NOBBY Beach is fast cementing its reputation as the hippest hotspot along the city’s coastal strip with a swag of new businesses preparing to open their doors in time for the peak summer tourist season.

Snobby’s Wine Bar and Bistro is yet to pour a drop but is already the talk of the neighbourhood thanks to its fun name.

The new venue, in premises along the Gold Coast Highway that previously housed cafe/bars The Cave and The Cavern, is pitching itself as “Snobby’s by name, not by nature”.

The venue’s owners have given the property a total facelift inside and out to transform it into a contemporary, up-market wine-themed restaurant.

Snobby’s is expected to quietly open its doors later this week ahead of its official launch later this month.

The venue is a few doors down from another shop undergoing a refurbishment before it reopens as new Italian bar and restaurant Gemellini, which means “the little twin”.

The venue’s owners, brothers Paul, James and Alec Carney, also operate award-winning Broadbeach restaurant Gemelli.

Builders are also hard at work on a smaller shop around the corner in Lavarack Road that once housed a laundromat and more recently, frozen yoghurt store Delissh.

The shop will reopen as a new venture called The Protein Bar in the next few weeks.

One of the last vacant sites in the lively suburb has also found a new tenant, with the Coast’s first bicycle fitness centre, The Mile High Cycle House, preparing to open in the building next to Foster’s Bakery along the highway in coming weeks.
