An Aussie bride-to-be has left her international guests in shock over the strict “no thongs” ban she’s issued for her wedding.

Brittany Hockley got engaged to Swiss goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrest, 32, in June and recently opened up about a dress code “problem” that emerged after sending out the save-the-date for their upcoming nuptials.

The long-distance couple, who met through a dating app back in late 2022 when Siegrest’s team was in Australia playing against Sydney Football Club, have a mix of Aussie and overseas guests – with the bride not realising a detail on the English-written invites would get lost in translation.

“Ben and I sent out the save-the-date invites and he’s like, ‘Babe, I’ve been getting these random messages, people keep asking me about the dress code’,” Hockley told her co-host Laura Byrne on the Life Uncut Podcast.

“[Another] one of my friend’s messaged me and was like, ‘dress code??’

“This happened about 4 or 5 times...”

Byrne then interjected, asking: “What did you put on the dress code?”

Hockley insisted it was “pretty standard” before explaining that her partner’s Swiss friends and family – which made up “half of our wedding” – had a different meaning for the word “thong”.

In Australia, it refers to a common footwear style often used at the beach, while in Europe the word is used to describe a small pair of women’s undies.

Aussie bride's wedding ban confuses guests

But the couple only realised the hilarious miscommunication when Siegrest eventually asked a female guest “what is the problem with the dress code?”.

“She asked, ‘Well how strict is it? Who in their right mind would make us wear and enforce no thongs?’,” Hockley explained, admitting she and her fiance were still very “confused” by the pushback.

The guest continued by pointing out most people would be unable to tell what she was wearing under her dress, which stumped Siegrest further.

“Ben was like, they’re going to be on your feet, so we’ll see them,” he told the equally as bemused guest.

“’And she went, ‘hang on, feet?’”

It was at this point that the penny dropped, with Hockley explaining the couple’s international wedding guests had thought the invite contained a “no G-string” order.

“Ben calls me and he’s like, ‘Babe half of the wedding thinks you’ve said they’re not allowed to wear G-strings,” she laughed, before joking: “Strict enforcement, full briefs or nothing.”

The segment has left the former Bachelor star’s fans in hysterics, with many stating it was a common miscommunication.

“Ah yes, in America we call those “flip flops”, and thongs go between your booty cheeks,” one said.

“Now you have to have someone doing undies checks at the door,” teased another.

Others asked if it was necessary to state “no thongs”, stressing it was usually a “given” at weddings.

“Yes she did... Aussie bogans,” one responded.

“The wedding is in a beachy spot in Bali, so would have a high risk of thongs,” another agreed.
