A NEW bar is bringing a taste of Thailand to Surfers Paradise with hopes of emulating a famous party strip in Phuket.
Bangla Road, named after the wild bar-hopping precinct in Patong, is a watering hole in new Asian food market Chop Chop, off Orchid Ave.
COAST’S FIVE BEST AUTHENTIC GLOBAL EATERIES
Co-owner Grant Rodgers said the bar’s round, open shape and colourful decor was designed for maximum interaction with bartenders and immersion in the sights, sounds and smells of the oriental alleyway.
“Bangla Road is the party-drinking atmosphere in Phuket,” Mr Rodgers said.
“We wanted to create that with the neons and bright colours.
“The shape is so you can have it like a pool bar, Asian style, where you can access it from all ways and staff can be really interactive.
“Like in Thailand, you can sit in those market spaces and absorb all of the atmosphere.
“The concept is to either get a drink first and then wander, or get your food and come to Bangla and have a drink.

“If you are a bit of a foodie, you can do all the pairings — the sake with the ramen, the Bintang and the Balinese food.
“It’s for everyone to feed off each other. It’s going to have a really good vibe.”
