Mums are just realising this Bluey episode is about parenting with a hangover

"Bandit and Chilli have never been more relatable," one person wrote, while another said: "I felt this in my soul."

The episode of Bluey that's all about hangovers

We’ve long known that Bluey is as much for parents as it is for kids and if you don’t believe us, you probably haven’t seen episode 22, season three.

It’s called Whale Watching, or for those in the know - the Bluey hangover episode.

While they don’t explicitly say that Chilli and Bandit got sozzled the night before, there are plenty of clues that indicate they're under the weather.

"I never want to leave this couch"

Firstly, the scene opens up with Chilli and Bandit lying in the living room, absolutely exhausted.

It’s not something we typically see from the otherwise upbeat dogs.

But today, they’re totally knackered. “Oh man,” Bandit groans while lying on the floor in the fetal position.

“I never want to leave this couch,” Chilli replies, sounding equally wrecked lying on the sofa.

"Are you sick?" Bluey asks

Then we find out that it’s New Year’s Day and reading between the lines, it’s clear they had a big one celebrating New Year’s Eve.

“Happy New Year’s” Bandit says. Chilli replies, “I do not have the energy for games today.”

By this stage, all doubt is gone and we can just enjoy this relatable parenting scenario reflected back to us (we’ve all been there!).

The kids then come into the room ready for a morning of fun and games but realise their parents aren’t acting themselves.

“Are you sick?” they ask. Bandit awkwardly says, “Not sick… just… ummmm...”

“Sleepy,” Chilli chimes in, finishing his sentence.

Then Bluey pieces it together and concludes that they’re tired because they went to a party at Muffin’s (their cousin) the night before.

And then comes the kicker.

“[Muffin] saw you dancing on her barbecue tables,” Bingo says pointing at Chilli who looks less than thrilled at the reminder.

The kids then persist in trying to get their parents to play with them, pretending they’re on a whale-watching cruise.

They muster a half-hearted effort but only really perk up when the kids suggest they’ll have more energy if they eat something.

The scene then shows Chilli munching on some corn chips and sour cream, still very much horizontal on the couch. HARD RELATE!

But the food only seems to boost Chilli’s morale for so long, before she finally decides to call it and give the kids some screen time (aka peace and quiet for the rents!) “It has to be done,” Chilli says to Bandit.

They really do understand the struggle.

"The adult humour is *chefs kiss*"

Mums in the Bluey Fan Facebook Pages also picked up on the subtle message.

“Bandit and Chilli have never been more relatable,” wrote one person.

Another said: “My husband and I absolutely loved this episode! This show gets more and more relatable.”

“Whale Watching is great. I felt it in my soul. I don't drink at all like I did pre-kid but on those random occasions the next day is roooough,” a different mum chimed in.

“OMG this episode pulled me in as an adult. I liked the show already but the adult humour is *chef kiss*” a fourth concluded.
