Menu expands as new restaurants get cooking at Nobby’s Beach

HELLENIKA owner Simon Gloftis has revealed when his Nobby Beach restaurant’s highly anticipated upstairs dining area will finally open its doors...and roof.

Fire guts Nobby Beach businesses overnight

HELLENIKA owner Simon Gloftis is confident his Nobby Beach restaurant’s highly anticipated upstairs dining area will finally open its doors — and roof — next month.

Mr Gloftis initially planned to unveil the new 100-covers space late last year but said delays during the build were compounded by the Christmas holiday shutdown.

Mr Gloftis said the delays had nothing to do with the new alfresco bar and function space’s centrepiece — state-of-the-art retractable roof which has already been installed and tested.

“We had to relocate some electricity lines after a little mistake by me. It means I’ll owe the bank for 50 years instead of 30 years now,” he said, laughing.

Hellenika’s upstairs area isn’t the only swish new dish joining the menu at Nobby’s.

Two new restaurants, Pinky’s and Alley Chow, quietly opened for business last week on the corner site that previously housed a single-storey block of shops destroyed by fire in 2016.

Alley Chow, an Asian Fusion restaurant from the original owners of Robina’s Honeyeater Kitchen, has added an extra dimension to the beachside commercial precinct, transforming what was previously a driveway into an inviting space with an eye-catching street-art mural.

Its New York diner-inspired neighbour Pinky’s will initially open for breakfast and lunch, with more tenancies including a new rooftop bar/restaurant to open on the site in coming months.

One of the oldest eateries in Nobby Beach, Barchino, has closed its doors for the last time after 14 years while it undergoes a major refit.

Located next to Nobby’s Arc on the ground floor of the Santorini building in Chairlift Ave, the restaurant is currently recruiting staff before it reopens on February 1 under new owners and a new name — Forreal Kitchen.

A new tenant, believed to be a hair salon, has also been secured for the vacant shop on the northeastern corner of Lavarack Rd and the Gold Coast Highway, previously occupied by a convenience store that closed late last year.
