Man proposes to girlfriend at friend’s wedding, sparks divide

A man who proposed to his girlfriend while attending another couple’s wedding has sparked a divide online. Is he in the wrong?

Couple’s engagement at friend’s wedding divides

A man’s decision to propose to his girlfriend at a wedding has divided the internet, with many claiming it takes away from the bride and groom.

Footage of the proposal shows the bride preparing to throw her bouquet on the dance floor, before she suddenly turns and walks towards a friend in the crowd of gathered women.

After the bride hands the flowers to the confused woman, her partner taps her on the shoulder.

By the time she’s turned around, the man is on one knee, holding a ring box out in his hands.

The clip quickly garnered attention after being shared by wedding planning Instagram page Surpriz Hikayeler where it has clocked up over 20 million views and earned thousands of comments.

But while some thought the gesture was “special”, others thought it was “taking away from the bride and groom’s day”.

“It’s a hard NO. Not fair on the couple and their day,” one outraged person wrote.

“One selfless bride. I am not that bride I would batter someone with my bouquet if they even thought of proposing at my wedding,” another woman added.

“Nope! Tacky as hell at someone else’s wedding,” one said.

Others commented on the fact it showed a lack of effort from the boyfriend, slamming the move as “unoriginal” and “lazy”.

“Proposals should not be done on wedding days. THE NERVE!” one raged.

“It would annoy me if my boyfriend gave me a ring at a wedding. Be original and creative and figure out a way of giving a ring,” another stated.

While one declared: “Not special at all. Have your own event, make your own memories.”

More said the move “ruined” the wedding, labelling it “cheap”.

Despite the backlash to the unusual engagement, many thought the proposal was lovely, pointing out the bride was clearly in on the surprise.

“Real queens share their wedding days with their besties,” one argued.

“Obviously the bride already gave consent to the man to propose his lady at the bride’s wedding, and if the bride doesn’t have any problem with it, why did you?” another asked.

“I wouldn’t want anyone proposing at my wedding as I want it to be MY special day. But this is just my personal opinion. If the bride and groom are fine with it, then nobody else should care and enjoy,” one woman reasoned.

Another said it was “very humbling when a bride and groom don’t make a fuss over a proposal stealing their spotlight”.

“The bride and groom definitely wanted and planned this so it’s fine! It’s not a cheap proposal … this was THEIR surprise and it worked,” one guy chipped in.
