A saucy revelation

As co-host Jason Hawkins indulged in a basket of McNuggets dipped in the signature sauce, his co-host, Lauren Philips, dropped the bombshell. 

“Have you ever thought about what Sweet’ N Sour Sauce is actually flavoured?” she inquired, building up the suspense. 

With Hawkins taking a bite, she revealed, “Would you believe it is actually … apricot flavour?”

Hawkins, visibly shocked, declared, “I hate apricot. I can taste the apricot now,” signalling a potentially altered culinary experience for those who shared his sentiment.

McDonald’s weighs in

In response to the revelation, McDonald’s clarified that the Sweet’ N Sour Sauce “blends flavours of apricot and peach with savoury spices and leaves a slight lingering heat.” 

The company listed additional ingredients, including high fructose corn syrup, soybean oil, modified food starch, dextrose, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate (preservative), cellulose gum, dried chilli peppers, caramel colour, and extractives of paprika (colour).

Fan reactions

The podcast’s revelation quickly circulated on social media, triggering mixed reactions among fans. 

While some lamented the perceived ruin of their favourite McDonald’s sauce, others defended its “elite” status, asserting that knowing the ingredients should not alter one’s enjoyment.

On TikTok, where the revelation was shared, comments ranged from, “You have now ruined my favourite McDonald’s sauce,” to more empathetic ones like, “Nothing has changed, bro, keep liking it.” 

This mix of opinions mirrored a viral episode in October 2022 when a woman shared the same fact on TikTok, causing a stir among viewers.
