Australian model Lara Worthington has turned heads in New York in a vintage Alexander McQueen dress.

The 35-year-old fashion darling stunned in the semi-sheer halter-neck dress, pulled from the British designer’s Spring/Summer 2002 collection.

Worthington styled the look with a pair of Marc Jacobs’ cult Kiki boots and a heart-shaped black velvet purse.

Speaking to Vogue over the weekend about the process of putting a look together, Worthington said that she “always works backwards from the outfit”.

“What makes sense based on the colour, fabric, shape, the way it falls on my body. I often find myself referencing a lot from the 90s for beauty and style.”

The mother-of-three – who lives in New York with her actor husband Sam Worthington and their sons – was photographed attending a Met Gala after-party at The Box on the Lower East Side with Australian-born Vogue China editor-in-chief Margaret Zhang.

In a March cover story for Marie Claire, Worthington spoke about the decision to raise her family in the city.

“I love the culture of living in New York with the boys. We don’t have a car, so they ride their scooters home from school, which is a nice change from the LA bubble,” she said.

“We often stop at museums or an art gallery on the way home from school, which I love because I didn’t get to experience that when I was growing up.”

Part of the reason the Worthingtons relocated from Los Angeles in 2022 was also thanks to New York’s stricter paparazzi laws – meaning sons Rocket, Racer and River could be better protected.

“We tend to try to keep our lives as normal as we can. I don’t think about that stuff ever. I don’t make it my reality,” Worthington said of the tabloids she’s navigated for more than 20 years.

“My mum instilled in me that it’s important to maintain a little bit of mystery. I think it’s hard in this day and age to achieve. I’ve tried to keep things pretty close to my chest and I think there’s a certain elegance to that.”
