Food
Forreal’s owners sisters Shonel Alloway and Kylie Simpson are big believers in balance.
Their organic-where-possible breakfast menu caters for health nuts, vegans, the gluten-free as well as those looking for a bit of naughty stuff — sometimes they’re the same people, Shonel says.
If you’re being good, the hot green prebiotic mess is a standout favourite: spinach, kale, broccolini, smashed avo, edamame and green beans salad topped with poached eggs.
You can add haloumi or hot smoked salmon. If you want French toast, it’s there alongside the Nutella banana pancakes topped with mascarpone, crushed oreos and toasted hazelnuts.
You can also choose from 12 smoothie bowls, featuring an array of magical superfood ingredients from acai to activated charcoal to peanut butter.
Coffee
Forreal baristas Rebecca, Emily and Taahlia serve up a special house blend of Vittoria coffee with just about every milk and milk alternative you’ve ever thought of, including coconut and lactose-free.
Interestingly, the cafe sells just as much coffee cold as it does hot, particularly in summer.
The signature cold brews are made in-house over 48 hours and bottled.
You can opt for an infusion of maple syrup, vanilla, caramel or hazelnut, served black or with your choice of milk.
Price
From $9 for eggs on toast to $20 for Mumma’s Big Breakfast, featuring smoky bacon, eggs, a fat beef and maple Forreal sausage, Spanish beans and sauteed mushrooms.
Regular flat white is $4.
Seating
It seems the weather is key to a premium perch at Forreal.
You can find a seat indoors amid the cool wallpapered interior with its brilliant aquas and hot pink flamingoes, or opt for under the umbrellas on the footpath where you can watch the street life of Nobbys pass you by.
The tip
For something off the beaten brekkie track, it’s hard to go past the chicken karaage with nasi goreng.
