Huge change to AusPost set to reduce pesky 'sorry we missed you' drive-bys

They've officially announced that a new scheme will be implemented. But, will it be enough?

"No safe place to deliver" — But security footage says otherwise!

If you haven’t spent the day waiting at home for a package, only for you to instead receive a ‘we missed you!’ note without so much of a knock, count yourself lucky.

Aussies have long complained about delivery services neglecting to do their jobs, with endless reports of drivers skipping homes entirely or not having packages in the van to deliver in the first place. And, we’re still having to pay the price - a dreaded trip to the post office.

Thankfully, Australia Post has stepped in with a game-changing solution - and we have high hopes.

Change is coming!

Australia Post has officially announced that they’ll be implementing a new scheme to give package recipients more information when their delivery can’t be completed.

From May 19 onwards, if an AusPost driver can’t leave a parcel at an address, MyPost customers will be able to view a photo of the delivery attempt in the AusPost app.

The parcel delivery process won’t change, meaning posties and drivers will still be required to knock three times and prove via GPS tracking that they were at the address.

According to AusPost, this change is primarily focused on providing transparency to their customers.

“From 19 May 2025, when a Postie is unable to deliver a parcel, they may take a photo of the front door of the property to confirm delivery has been attempted,” an Australia Post spokesperson told Kidspot.

“We’re focused on improving the digital and delivery experience for our customers. This initiative will enhance the transparency of when a delivery is attempted and provide customers with assurance when we can’t leave the parcel at the address.”

“About time!”

This notice was shared on Reddit, where many commenters were optimistic.

“Saw that in app this morning. About time really,” said one commenter.

“Hopefully this means they can't/wont fake attempted deliveries as much,” said another.

“Can’t wait to see blurry photos of my roof”

However, many were more cynical, and had their doubts about the change.

“How are they going to take the photo while speeding past the house? It’s going to be interesting,” one said jokingly.

“Can't wait to see blurry photos of my roof, taken over the posties shoulder as he's halfway down the street,” said another.

“They had better be photos of my actual door from 1 - 2m away and not some distant drive-by shot,” a third agreed.
