A 29-STOREY luxury health hotel and apartment building is set to change the skyline of Coolangatta.
The 100 ocean view hotel rooms and 94 beachfront apartments are planned as the Gold Coast’s version of Singapore’s luxury Marina Bay Sands Resort.
The Hotel Komune Group is waiting for the development plans to pass through the Gold Coast City Council approval process but expect to begin construction next year.
The development will replace Hotel Komune’s current building, branching out from its focus on surfers.
“Overall, Komune’s brand objective is not only to offer resorts which cater for surfers, place directly opposite A-grade waves but also to cater to the health and wellbeing markets and act as a highly sought-after entertainment destination,” the development documents read.
The second level of the building is to be devoted to health and fitness and includes a gym, hot yoga room and yoga deck, spa, two swimming pools and a lawn area.
The roof will also house health facilities, including a 50m horizon pool, available to residents, hotel guests and members of the health hub.
The building has been designed to fit in with the architecture in Coolangatta, with a 1950s-inspired design.
Hotel Komune Group co-owner Tony Cannon said customers were now demanding more when it came to health and wellbeing travel.
“Our site at Greenmount Beach is unique in the fact it has ocean and water views to the Duranbah and Fingal to the south and east and to Greenmount and Kirra to the north,” he said.
“This unique aspect has allowed us to design some beautiful three-bedroom apartments that have ocean views front and back and true cross-flow ventilation.”
While the tower has almost 200 apartments and hotel rooms, only 166 car parks have been planned, according to the development application.
