Just when you thought you couldn’t go to the pub anymore, out comes a Sydney couple with the ultimate solution — just build one yourself.
Lockdown definitely has us Aussie dabbling into our creative sides whether it be baking or conquering a DIY project.
And this couple really set off with the latter, proving what you can do with a few hundred dollars spent at Bunnings.
Like many of us, Kaylyn and Daniel Rule, have been missing the simple things in life which for them is heading down to the local pub and enjoying a feed and a couple of pints with mates.

They missed it so much, they thought, ‘why not just build a pub in the garage’.
“We live not even five minutes from our local pub and all our friends live in the same area and a few times a week we all just congregate there and catch up,” Kaylyn, 24 told news.com.au.
“After a month of being in lockdown we were sitting in the garage one day I just turned to Daniel and said, ‘wouldn’t it be cool and fun if we made a pub in here’.”
Wasting no time, Daniel put his carpentry skills to the test and in less than three hours, managed to create a makeshift pub for Kaylyn costing no more than $300.
Kaylyn, a beauty therapist and disability worker, recorded the entire process from start to finish and shared it on TikTok, not realising it would go viral almost immediately.

“I always see TikToks of other people’s DIY projects and I wanted my family to see it too, so I recorded it and uploaded and wondered how many views it would get,” Kaylyn said,
“I was thinking surely other p**s heads will love it too and the next day it had like 50,000 views and I was like ‘what the hell’ and it’s been going crazy ever since then.”
The clip, which has now been viewed half a million times, shows Daniel making the bar by joining several wooden pallets together they bought off Facebook marketplace for $2 each and nailing it to the benchtop which they bought from Bunnings for $250.
“Daniel did all the heavy lifting and I was the good looking camera man and foreman,” Kaylyn joked.
“I did help him screw it altogether, sand the surface of the bench, and I put all the lights up.”
The couple also bought a varnish from Bunnings which they used to deepen the colour of the wood.
Daniel mounted two shelves to the wall behind the bar to store the alcohol and a television.
Kaylyn added she had”the most important job” of stacking all the alcohol.
Kaylyn said she was pretty impressed by how fast her hubby whipped it together, adding it also gave them something to do after being laid off their jobs.
Kaylyn said they got the ultimate surprise when someone sent the video of their pub to their landlord, who in return sent the pair three cases of beer to add to their collection.
They have also been taken by the huge response it has got from neighbours and also those online who have branded it “awesome”.
“Love it and the Aussie flag in the background,” one woman wrote.
“This is the most romantic thing I’ve ever witnessed,” said another.
“what time does the pub lose, I’m on my way,” a third person joked.
Kaylyn said she looks forward to when restrictions are lifted, but as for now, they Zoom call their mates and pop the iPad up on a stool to make it “feel” like they’re there with them.
