VETERINARIAN Kristen Lindsey has been fired after she posted an image to Facebook of her allegedly shooting a cat with a crossbow.
KBTX reports that Ms Lindsey, 31, shot the cat in her backyard believing it was feral. However it turned out to a domesticated cat called Tiger who had been missing for two weeks.
Ms Lindsey of Texas proudly posted the image of her holding up the cat with a crossbow through its head on to social media.
“My first bow kill ... lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it’s head. Vet of the year award ... gladly accepted,” she wrote.
Before she was fired from her job at the Washington Animal Clinic, Ms Lindsey made a comment on the picture revealing that she did not think her kill would threaten her job as a vet.
“And no I did not lose my job. Psshh. Like someone would get rid of me. I’m awesome,” she wrote.
But the owners of the Washington Animal Clinic thought otherwise when they became aware of the picture.
“We are absolutely appalled, shocked, upset, and disgusted by the conduct,” the clinic said in a statement. “We have parted ways with Ms. Lindsey. We do not allow such conduct and we condemn it in the strongest possible manner,’ the clinic said in the statement.”
“Please know that when informed of this we responded swiftly and appropriately and please do not impute this awful conduct to the Washington Animal Clinic or any of its personnel,” she wrote.
Thousands of people have called for justice for the cat and demanded that Ms Lindsey face criminal charges.
“Hopefully we will get to the bottom of it and get the truth, 100 per cent truth, and get it to the DA and put it in his hands if it needs to go any further,” Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes said.
Tiger’s owner has not been identified but a video believed to be of the cat has surfaced on YouTube.
