Neighbour’s sign asking people to ‘stop feeding’ cat divides

A person who shared a poster asking neighbours not to feed a cat has caused a huge divide online – but who is in the right?

Neighbour’s relatable pet sign divides

A neighbour’s sign asking people to “stop feeding” their cat has sparked divide online as no one can agree who is in the right.

Many social media users waded into the debate after the sign was shared by TikTok user @connorrbolton on Sunday.

The sign, shared outside a gym in the UK, reads: “Stop feeding this cat please! He has an owner who feeds him everyday.”

A photo of the cat, looking rather guilty it must be said, was also included on the poster that had been taped to a wall.

While Connor revealed he only gave the cat, called Zayan, a pat, others in the comments claimed they would still feed the adorable kitty.

Many agreed stating if the owner didn’t want Zayan to get attention from others, they should have kept him inside.

This prompted many to argue the owner has every right to request people not feed the cat.

“All the people saying they would feed the cat after the owner asked not to. Would you feed something to a child after their parents told you not to?” one said.

“Don’t feed random cats on the street, it could cause serious harm to them if they have allergies or dietary restrictions,” another woman stated.

“What if the cat has allergies and needs specific food? You should definitely listen to the owner’s request,” another agreed.

However many thought the owner was being over protective.

“If he’s outside, this will happen. Keep him in where he’s safe, cosy and fed,” one argued.

“Don’t let your cat out if you don’t want people messing with them,” another reasoned.

As one man asked: “Why not? It’s her/his luck to get food from strangers.”

Many just saw the funny side of the sign, describing the photo like a “mug shot”.

“They got his pic up there like he’s a damn criminal,” one said.

“Cat looks like this is his mug shot,” another pointed out.

While one commented: “WANTED for excessive food consumption.”

There were also people who commented asking why people were so “angry”, describing the argument as “a headache”.

The TikTok video had such a huge reaction, clocking up over three million views in a matter of days, Conner shared a follow-up revealing details about Zayan.

“He has been coming for the past month now to the gym I go to,” he said, sharing footage of him at the revolving doors of the fitness centre.

“He gets all the pats, all the scratches and is an absolute sweetheart.”
