A GOLD Coast woman’s clothing company has soared to new heights following an exclusive one-off deal with online US giant BHLDN.
Efthimia Devaney’s Hide and Rose, together with artist Sharon Hindle, crafted a special genuine leather jacket with a handpainted design exclusively for BHLDN. It hit the store’s virtual shelves on August 6 for $1100.
The design is a pop of pink florals on a black canvas, with the sweet saying “it was always you”.
“They entrusted us to come up with the design, something unique for the bridal market, stylish that can be kept forever,” Ms Devaney said.
Gold Coast artist Sharon Hindle initially handpainted 16 jackets (including the sample) for the order, but BHLDN made another order for more.
“As an artist, it’s the breakthrough you need — all we need now is for a Kardashian to order one and we’ll be set,” Ms Hindle said.
“BHLDN’s following on Instagram is 700,000, the photo had nearly 10,000 likes after one day. Who knows where it can go from here, but hopefully it’s the beginning for us all. Cracking the US market opens up so many doors.”

Ms Hindle said each jacket took between 4.5 and seven hours to finish.
“It’s the perfect accompaniment for a wedding, it has this edgy elegance. It’s unique for the market, floral, stylish (but not outlandish) colours.”
Hide and Rose didn’t start from a degree in fashion or an internship behind a sewing machine. It started when one sentimental bride hunted for an unconventional wedding dress cover-up — something classic, but edgy.
She found the chic look of leather over lace an enticing concept, and after adding a splash of colour and design; something to turn heads, her look was complete.
Fast forward to 2018 and Hide and Rose is relishing the breakthrough 12 months after opening.

“It’s been a really nice ride so far. The handpainting on the leather and other jackets has become a lot more fashionable, more prevalent,” Ms Devaney said.
“So for a small business on the Gold Coast to have this exposure — we’re getting Gold Coast artists works out there, internationally. We’re all chuffed to have our pieces worn around the world.
“We got a bit lucky with that order. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been a lot of hard work. Now we’re going to see how the jackets sell.
“Hopefully they do well and BHLDN continue to work with us and we can come up with different design exclusive to them, and keep everything moving for our artists.”
