A popular supplement powder has been urgently recalled from hundreds of health stores and pharmacies such as Chemist Warehouse over fears it may cause “tingling, burning and numbness”.

Metagenics Australia Pty Ltd confirmed it is recalling a batch of its Ethical Nutrients Mega Magnesium Raspberry Powder due to having too much pyridoxine (Vitamin B6).

“Due to a manufacturing error, the pyridoxine content is twice the amount stated on the label,” the Therapeutic Goods Administration said in a statement.

“This means that it slightly exceeds the 100mg maximum recommended daily dose.

“Ingestion of excessive pyridoxine may cause tingling, burning and numbness.”

The TGA confirmed the compromised batch had been distributed nationwide.

The batch to watch out for has an expiry date of July 2025 and batch number 007764.

Anyone with a bottle matching those details can return it to where they bought it from for a full refund.

“If you have purchased Ethical Nutrients Mega Magnesium Raspberry Powder batch 007764, do not use it,” the TGA statement continued.

“The batch number can be found on the side of the bottle, under the directions for use, and near the barcode. Return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.”

Metagenics is a global supplements manufacturer specialising in natural medicines.

Its Australian head office is in Brisbane.

Magnesium powder is usually used to support muscle cramps and spasms, as well as to help boost energy and provide cardiovascular support.

“Anyone who is concerned in any way about the use of this product should consult their doctor,” a statement on the Chemist Warehouse website read.

“Metagenics Pty Ltd sincerely regrets any inconvenience to their customers.”
