Consumer recall of some Lucas’ papaw ointment products

Some products of a popular ointment brand used for dry skin and to treat wounds are being recalled due to contamination.

Lucas’ Papaw Remedies is recalling several batches of Lucas’ Papaw Ointment due to contamination.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration issued the alert on Wednesday for the topical ointment, which is used to treat minor skin wounds, dryness and chafing.

Several batches of the ointment are being recalled due to microbial contamination. The affected products come in 15g, 75g and 200g sizes.

The microorganisms have been identified as Aspergillus tubingensis, Sordaria humana, Penicillium paneum and Paenibacillus glucanolyticus.

These moulds and bacteria pose minimal risk to the general population, but there is a remote risk that individuals who are immunocompromised could become ill if they are exposed to these organisms.

Anyone who has a container of Lucas’ Papaw Ointment is urged to check its batch number, which is at the crimp at the top of the 15g tube and at the bottom of the 75g and 200g containers.

The affected batch numbers are listed below.

If consumers have an ointment from the affected batches, they are advised to immediately stop using it.

It can be returned to the place of purchase for a refund or contact Lucas’ Papaw Remedies Customer Service on 1800 861 852.

No other batches or other Lucas’ Papaw Remedies products are being recalled at this time.
