A young bank worker has died after a suspected overdose at a Sydney music festival over the weekend, which saw at least a dozen others hospitalised and six people charged with drug supply offences.

The 26-year-old died at Bankstown Hospital in the early hours of Sunday after presenting at the hospital just before 1.30am for a suspected drug overdose, according to police.

The Daily Telegraph has identified the man as Kieran Ngo, a University of Technology Sydney business graduate who worked as a senior lending associate at Commonwealth Bank.

“About 3am on Sunday, officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were called to Bankstown Hospital to investigate the circumstances of the death of a 26-year-old man,” NSW Police said in a statement on Monday.

“Investigations are underway and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.”

A CommBank spokeswoman said, “We are shocked and saddened by the news of the death of our valued staff member, Kieran. He was a well liked member of our team and we pass on our condolences to his family and friends.”

Police said more than 130 people were treated by medical professionals at the Transmission Festival in southwest Sydney on Saturday, with numerous complaints suspected to relate to drug use and heat exhaustion.

“At least 12 people were transported by NSW Ambulance paramedics to hospitals for further treatment relating to drug use, with seven of those patients requiring intubation,” police said.

Six men were charged with drug supply offences at the event, which was headlined by Dutch trance megastar Armin van Buuren.

“The event was determined a high-risk event under the Music Festivals Act 2019, and as such, police were assisted by security officers, NSW Ambulance paramedics and medical professionals to provide a safe and secure environment for more than 18,000 attendees,” police said.
