A GOLD Coast school has unveiled a $9 million centre equipped with everything from laser cutters to hydroponic gardens.

Somerset College will today officially open its new purpose-built Design Centre, as well as reveal the completed rebuild of its Performing Arts Centre.

The new centre features technology needed for robotics, film and television, 3D and laser printing and computing.

The ceremony is part of the Mudgeeraba college’s Founder’s Day celebrations, marking its 36th year on the Gold Coast.

Headmaster Craig Bassingthwaite said he was thrilled to be unveiling the two projects “to our community and the Gold Coast”.

“Our vision for the College is to create dedicated spaces for students to collaborate, create, critique and communicate with peers and teachers, while feeling inspired and empowered to learn,” he said.

“We believe it’s vital we equip students with the skills they need to achieve personal success once they leave school and look to enter the workplace.”

The school also revealed the performing arts centre’s new name, with it now being known as the Suzanne Roberts Centre for Performing Arts.
