EVEN one of the Gold Coast’s richest men needs luck on his side to pick up one of the most exclusive cars on the planet.
Tony Quinn bought his Aston Martin Vulcan ‘hypercar’ after landing an unexpected US $5.8 million windfall.
Mr Quinn will be showing off the $4m vehicle at his Helensvale Game Over indoor karting track until Friday next week.
Only 24 special edition Vulcan track cars were released and Mr Quinn’s model is said to be the only one in the Southern Hemisphere.
“It’s got to come from the sky,” the Targa Tasmania winner and former VIP Petfood owner said.
“About 10 years ago me and two other guys invested $5 million into a petfood business in America,” Mr Quinn said.
After later selling the company, Mr Quinn retained a six per cent share, which he put to the back of his mind. That was until he got a call from the US saying the company, in which he owned 286,000 shares, was to be listed on the stock market.
“I’d never made a dollar from that business and they phoned me up couple of years ago and said we’re going to put it on the NASDAQ,” said Mr Quinn, who along with his wife Christina sold VIP Petfood in 2015 for $410 million.
“I didn’t think I’d make any money, I had 286,000 shares.”
However Mr Quinn sold the shares for $21.20 each – realising US $5.8 million.
“I got $5.8 million US out of the sky for something I never even though was going to happen — I didn’t need another house or anything so I bought (The Vulcan),” he said.
