CEREAL cafes have caused a stir in London and New York — and now Southport has one in the form of uber-cool creative space Randy Wallhole.

IT’S their mission to get people talking and 40/40 Creative’s first foray into hospitality is no exception.
The team behind the cutting-edge creative agency opened Randy Wallhole last week, cramming everything from fluoro furniture to Fruit Loops into the petite Southport space.
“At its heart it is a simple hole in the wall concept, but it will be so much more,” says 40/40 account director Ty Kudla.
“It’s going to be a real cultural experience that hasn’t been done in the north before; something exciting and eclectic — an extension of us and the agency.”
Ty says the menu, which is still evolving, revolves around quirky and nostalgic favourites like chilled snack packs and cereal cups.
There are six different types of bagels, which you can buy “built” or “naked”.
“A lot of people are keeping it simple for brekkie with strawberry jam and cream cheese, but we also have an avo smash with feta, pepper and a lemon wedge, and the Smokey Pink, which is smoked salmon with double-cream cheese, capers and Spanish onion,” Ty says.
The piece de resistance, however, has got to be the Black and Yellow bagel, piled with peanut butter, Nutella, banana and pretzels.
“We also do jaffles, like the classic ham and tasty cheese, or Mum’s Special, which is Heinz spaghetti and cheese in a toastie,” Ty says.
“We healthy things up a bit in the display fridge though — we’re not all fun and games, but we try to be.”
Toby’s Estate’s bold Woolloomooloo is the house blend, with the team setting the alarm clock at 11.45pm to perfect their single-origin cold brews.
Ty was just as single-minded when it came to furnishing the cafe and says he’s been hoarding chairs in a shed at home in anticipation of the unveiling.
“I would see them in antiques, op shops or online, but when we put it all in we realised we needed one bold item to pull everything together,” he says.
“That was the orange couch — we found it 48 hours before we opened, in all its glory.
“We’re trying to get people to take photos on it now and use the hashtag #therandycouch.”
