A SOUTHERN Gold Coast suburb is about to welcome its own trendy “pavilion” following an extensive $4 million renovation of a popular waterside pub.

The Robina Tavern will relaunch as the Robina Pavilion at the end of next month, with five new areas including a huge outdoor deck, a “Bali-style beach club” space with daybeds and children’s lounge.

Robina Pavilion general manager Damien Stephen said the venue would be unrecognisable following the completion of the mammoth revamp.

“It’s a completely new venue in every area,” he said.

“We’ve got this lower beach house area with day beds, umbrellas, fire pits in winter, directly across the water. It’s just lovely.

“We’ve taken a lot more advantage of the residual land we owned that was never improved upon.

“We have a deck with a retractable roof, and outdoor bar and pizza oven. Our grassy area has returned and there’s lovely murals throughout the hotel.”

While renovations began in February this year, Mr Stephen said the idea to upgrade the tavern was first floated five years ago.

He said the name “pavilion” had been established long before the iconic Burleigh Heads restaurant opened.

“(Having the same name) doesn’t phase me in the slightest – people can come to my place as well,” Mr Stephen said.

“The first thing we needed to do was change the name of the pub. With the scope of works we came up with, it ceased to become just a hotel or a tavern, it was so much more.

“It’s an entertainment precinct, and I’m a bit of a fan of the Coogee Pavilion in Sydney so we got some design inspiration from them.”

Mr Stephen promises regulars will feel just as welcome at the new-look local and prices for food and drinks will remain the same.

Robina Pavilion will open at the end of November at the corner of Ron Penhaligon Way and Cheltenham Drive, Robina.
