FANCY a dose of activated charcoal in your morning super smoothie?

While it’s hyped for its detoxing properties, I wasn’t expected the health craze to have infiltrated a humble shopping centre in the suburbs.

Gabriele Pirotta and Monica Tjong opened their little corner of Clear Island Waters a few months ago and they aren’t afraid to be pioneers on the flavour front.

They may be thinking global on the trends front, but Goji Granola Bar & Café has that comfortable, hyper-local feel.

The friendly couple are up for a chat and really keen to get to know their customers.

Diners can design their own granola bowls ($12), choosing their favourite dried fruits, roasted nuts and health boosters to top with CocoSoft — a vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free ice cream alternative.

It’s not all raw slices and superfood bowls though. An all-day breakfast and lunch menu has a broader range of tastes covered, with updated classics served in cardboard takeaway trays lined with checked paper.

There’s an egg and bacon panini ($8), salmon eggs benne ($15.50) and smashed avo with haloumi, kale and poached eggs on sourdough ($15).

The cheeseburger, layered with a beef patty, bacon, fried eggs, gherkins, cheese and tomato sauce ($14.90), can be ordered as a double ($19.90) or even a triple ($24.50).

The drink’s list is equally exhaustive, sprawling from Silipo coffee and Somage tea to hardcore health smoothies served in measuring beakers.

They’ve picked up Hrvst St.’s excellent cold-pressed juice jars too — give the Streets of Mexico a go for a morning kickstart courtesy of the hidden jalapeño.
