It’s believed the blaze was started by a group of teenagers who started a bonfire on the beach, which then got out of control.

The amount of vegetation burnt was about 30m by 15m.

In a video supplied to the Bulletin, men understood to be plainclothes detectives, carried buckets of water to the fire before firefighters arrived on scene.

The Coomera Valley Rural Fire Brigade also posted to their Facebook page yesterday writing: “Total Fire Ban means just that, absolutely no fires! Our brigade, in the last 90min has been called to a Bon Fire in a paddock and a Camp Fire.

“This is not allowed, we already have a campaign fire we do not need another! Please follow the strict fire bans currently in place!”

NSW and QLD fire threat remains high

In the past week hundreds of firefighters from across Queensland and NSW descended upon the south east, which has been battling three major blazes in Sarabah, south of Canungra, Numinbah Valley and Stanthorpe.

At least 11 homes have been lost so far.

Due to the ’very high’ fire danger, a total fire ban is in place for the Gold Coast until at least midnight.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said this could be extended.
