THROW out all your bowls, you don’t need them anymore.
Pizza dough is the new bowl and Gemelli Italian Broadbeach is showing how it’s done.
“It’s a bowl made out of wood-fired pizza dough, then we fill it with gnocchi — either pork shin and oxtail ragu and mozzarella or vegetarian with Napoli sauce — and bake it in the oven,”
Gemelli co-owner James Carney said.
“Then once it’s filled we bake it in the oven, so you kind of eat the bowl at the same time.
“The best option is to cut it up but that takes a bit of the fun out of it, so you’ve got to eat the gnocchi faster than the bowl.”
But other than being a delicious concept, the bowl, which costs $32, is an element of practicality too.
“It’s a great option when you want pizza and pasta at the same time,” Mr Carney said.
“We thought it’d be best for sharing but people have mainly been coming in and eating it by themselves.
“We might do different things with it in the future; a bowl filled with cheese sauce would be pretty good, too.”
