ONE of the Gold Coast’s first bona fide hipster hot spots is preparing to reopen in an iconic location overlooking the ocean.
A long time favourite on Kirra’s beachfront strip, restaurant and tapas lounge bar Bread ’n’ Butter earned a stellar reputation for woodfired pizzas, live music and a funky fit-out that included vintage items and local artwork.
First opened in a converted Queenslander on Musgrave Street, the menu at Bread’N’Butter used only fresh produce, with no added sugar, preservatives or artificial flavours, no microwaves and no pre-made sauces.

The venue was one of several retail spaces in a complex at 74 and 76 Musgrave St, Kirra sold in 2016 to make way for the swish new 15-floor Iconic redevelopment.
With the project now finished, Bread’n’Butter is preparing to reopen in September in the new luxury apartment tower that now occupies the same site.
Iconic Kirra Beach residential sales manager Nick Burke said Bread’n’Butter was one of five commercial tenants set to open in the 98-apartment building overlooking and directly opposite the famed Kirra beach.
“Yes they are coming back,” he said.
“There’s an organic bakery and cafe coming in as well and three other tenancies — all food.
“It will be a really nice dining precinct for the southern Gold Coast.”
Bread’N’Butter owner Jorge Mauleon maintained a presence while work on the site was in progress, operating a food truck at Miami Marketta and The Italian Job at The Collective in Palm Beach.

Mr Burke said the Iconic’s residential offering was completely sold out.
“Most of it was sold off the plan,” he said.
“This is only now the third weekend it has been open as a resort for holiday-makers and it is booked out.
“People are now living in the building as well.”
