A woman who posted a picture complaining about the cost of her grocery haul didn’t get the response she was hoping for.

The woman took to Reddit to post a snap of her Woolworths shop, which included a litre of Garnier Fructus Normal shampoo for $17, a $14 dog care item, a 500ml bottle of Dermaveen soap and a Lindt chocolate block for $2.75.

The entire haul came to a cost of $45.65, with the shopper asking; “Should I rummage in the bin to see if there’s any spare change?”

The shopper did explain that Garnier isn’t a luxury brand and they had a skin condition that required the Dermaveen soap.

However, many shoppers challenged her for buying “luxury” items in her shop.

“Yeah. Guess so. Buying expensive beauty brands does that to the wallet,” one social media user commented.

Another Reddit user said: “$17 shampoo? Woolworths isn’t the problem … the problem is you.”

“Wait (until) they go on special or check other competitors. This is the price of convenience,” one added.

Another said: “What are you trying to prove here? You’ve bought expensive hair products and body creams.”

“You buy expensive products then complain about it,” one said.

But, some defended the woman.

“We need to have some luxuries in our lives. I’m pretty sure I spend more on food for my cat then I do on myself,” one person commented.

One social media user offered a helpful tip, saying; “Buy these at Chemist Warehouse. Would be half the price.”

“$17 for shampoo is mental sh*t. There has to cheaper, same quality stuff around, that's hairdresser shampoo prices, it’s half price this week where I am.” another social media user commented on the Reddit thread.

“Shampoo and conditioner have gone up so much! That shampoo used to be under $10,” one said.
