‘Who?’ Kim Kardashian’s hilarious response to jacket potato question

The Skims star was blindsided during an interview for her show All's Fair - and people cannot get enough of her reaction.

Ah celebrities, they’re just like us.

Well, in the sense that they love an easy comfort meal every now and then.

Even stars like Kim Kardashian have their food cravings – although the jury’s still out on her penchant for dipping chicken nuggets in honey.

But the Skims founder has caused a stir after drawing a blank when it came to an absolute favourite comfort meal: jacket potatoes.

What did Kim K say about jacket potatoes?

During the promotional trail for new TV series All’s Fair, Kim and co-star Sarah Paulson were quizzed by UK internet personality Grime Gran (yes, that’s her name) about whether they were fans of jacket potatoes.

Like here, jacket potatoes are a staple in Britain if you’re after something quick and filling that won’t break the bank (usually overflowing with baked beans and cheese).

Doing her best impression of a deer in headlights, Kim replied that she didn’t know “who” a jacket potato was, causing Sarah to dissolve into laughter.

“I don’t know what that is,” Kim continued and Sarah added that she too was clueless.

“You don’t know what a jacket potato is?” Grime Gran asked incredulously. “It’s a potato cooked in the skin.”

“I love that,” Kim replied, prompting Grime Gran to ask the reality star what her favourite filling would be.

“Sour cream and butter … maybe bacon bits,” Kim said. Not quite so clueless, after all.

What people are saying about Kim K’s jacket potato reaction

Naturally the internet had many thoughts about Kim K drawing a blank about jacket potatoes, with footage of the hilarious exchange going viral on TikTok.

“Why does Kim look terrified,” one person commented, while another wrote: “She looks so stressed.”

But Americans in the comments pointed out that they too had no idea what a jacket potato was until they watched the interview.

“I never knew what a jacket potato was either until I landed on UK TikTok,” one said.

“In America it’s a baked potato. That’s why she didn’t know,” another person commented.

Honestly though, the only crime here is that Kim doesn’t put cheese on her jacket potato. Kim, you have not lived!

Where did jacket potatoes come from?

Despite jacket potatoes being a decidedly British meal staple we can probably credit their invention to Peru.
Wild potatoes first popped up in South America and around 5000 to 8000 BCE they were cultivated by the Incas.

The Incan are believed to have eaten jacket potatoes baked in an underground fire pit and filled with beans and corn.

In the UK, jacket potatoes were sold as a street food during the 19th century before finding their way to the dinner table.

Long a favourite of budget-conscious students, last year The Telegraph UK reported jacket potatoes were “making a comeback” in office lunches amid rising cost of living costs.

Our favourite ways to stuff a jacket potato (pay attention, Kim)

With Mexican beans and cheese

An easy and cheap potato filling, this bean mixture doesn’t require many ingredients and is simple to make. Add a dollop of sour cream!

With tuna mornay

Brits love their baked potatoes with tuna mayo, but this recipe takes it to the next level, making it extra cheesy.

With chargrilled vegetables and pesto

This is such a great vegetarian option when it comes to jacket potatoes! We always make extra pesto and veg to use in another meal, such as stirred through pasta.

How to cook the perfect jacket potato

In the oven

This method by recipe writer Dixie Elliot has only 5-star reviews, with members saying they turned out “delish”. Dixie makes sure her potatoes are dry, before piercing and baking at a high heat for up to an hour. Golden on the outside, fluffy in the middle.

In the air fryer

These air fryer jacket potatoes have been confirmed as the quickest way to make a baked potato. Although about on a par with oven baking when it comes to texture and flavour, they beat all the other ways hands down for convenience
