McDonald’s finally launches in-demand service via MyMacca’s app

The burger chain has quietly started rolling out an in-demand feature in Australia after being available overseas since 2017.

‘Un-Australian’: New Macca’s burger slammed

McDonald’s is finally giving Australian customers a service that has been available at restaurants overseas for years.

The fast-food giant has launched McDelivery, a service that enables customers to get their favourite menu items delivered to their front door when ordered via the MyMacca’s app.

However, diners will be hit with a fee for enjoying the ultimate act of convenience, with McDonald’s Australia telling news.com.au the price on orders with a spend of $12 or more will set customers back $3.99 as well as a 5 per cent customer service fee.

Orders under $12 will be charged a $2 min order fee.

“McDelivery allows customers to place delivery orders using the MyMacca’s app, while also earning and redeeming MyMacca’s Rewards points,” the spokesperson said.

“This is part of our ongoing commitment to providing greater value, convenience and rewards for our customers.

“Customers can check their MyMacca’s app to see if McDelivery is available at a restaurant near them.”

McDelivery is currently only available in participating stores in NSW, with Macca’s explaining it will be rolled out more broadly in the coming weeks.

Customers get 100 points for every $1 spent on eligible food and drink purchases in the MyMacca’s App, including Deals and Bonuses. Points can then be used to claim range of rewards.

The burger chain added that third party delivery services, including Uber Eats, Menulog and DoorDash, will still be available.

Australia is the latest country the global food outlet is introducing its own delivery services in, which started in the US in 2017, according to AFR.

The company’s plans to tap into the $US100 billion ($A140 billion) restaurant delivery market was a “significant opportunity” for growth, McDonald’s chief strategy officer Lucy Brady said. It’s also hoped the use of mobile ordering will help improve efficiency at its restaurants and drive-throughs.

Australians have reacted to the announcement with mixed thoughts, with some speculating it could be the “end of Macca’s restaurants”.

“Should be Australia wide,” one lamented.

“This is probably not a good thing,” someone else speculated.

As one claimed: “Say bye bye to your local Macca’s. It’ll be robots delivering it soon.”

Others said they were delighted, stating the current delivery services have issues.

“About time, Asia has had this for frigging ages. Just roll it out,” one said.

“Awesome, we love Macca’s, it’s the best,” another declared.

While one raged: “I hope it’s better than the current services which always arrives cold and something missing.”
