Fast food giant McDonald’s has been targeted for raising their prices but all may not be what it appears.

Macca’s worker’s ‘brilliant’ act praised

Fast food giant McDonald’s has been targeted for raising their prices but all may not be what it appears.

A comparison using the website Frugal Feeds, which is not affiliated with the restaurant, has claimed that a number of Macca’s items have risen in cost in the last three years.

For instance, it puts a large Big Mac meal at $10.55 in 2019 whereas on the MyMacca’s app it is listed for $12.90 currently.

But, when ordering the same meal on UberEats the price came as high as $13.80.

Like all businesses, a McDonald’s Australia spokesperson revealed that outside factors – such as a franchisee’s ability to set their own prices and rising costs of produce – has impacted prices over the last few years.

“As individual businesses, McDonald’s prices are set at a restaurant level,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.

“Like all businesses, we review menu prices from time-to-time and consider several factors, including the higher-cost environment we are operating in.
“While this may result in slight changes, Macca’s is committed to delivering great value for our Aussie customers.”

Meanwhile, the spokesperson said there will always be a commitment of value to customers.

The Macca’s spokesperson added: “For example, via our always on Loose Change Menu and via regular specials and Limited Time Offers.

“Earlier this year we launched our first national loyalty program – MyMacca’s Rewards – which offers customers 100 points for every dollar spent, redeemable on offers like discounts on menu bundles and free menu items including coffees, McMuffins, Cheeseburgers, Big Macs, salads, fries, wraps, desserts and more.

“It’s been extremely popular – we’ve had millions of customers subscribe since the March launch.”

The concern about rising prices began after two Reddit threads took aim at the prices.

One thread asked what were subtle signs of the recession people were seeing around Australia, and one person responded prices at McDonalds were rising.

Another person said on a different threat: “Macca’s prices aren’t worth the food they put out.

“I’m 30 years old and I remember being able to get a large meal and a cheeseburger for $10, roughly 10 years ago.

Now the price of a large meal alone is $12+ dollars and the shrinkflation has hit just has hard as inflation.”
