Did you know there is a way to get a hot roast chicken from Coles for free?
The supermarket has a national policy that if there are none available for you to purchase within certain hours, you can get a voucher to pick one up for free that week.
A Coles spokeswoman confirmed the policy to news.com.au and said the supermarket’s ready-to-eat chooks are among the most purchased items across the entire supermarket.
“As part of Coles’ RSPCA approved ‘Hot Roast Chicken Promise’ we strive to ensure they are available when our customers want them most! As such, customers are eligible to collect a voucher for use within seven days if the RSPCA Hot Roast Chickens are unavailable during certain hours as stipulated on signage in the deli area of the store,” she said.
She did add, while the promise was available nationally, it excluded Coles’ “resort” stores, which are 40 stores found in typical holiday destinations.
“It’s also important to note that as there are different trading hours by state/store, different stores have different time periods on their signage,” the spokeswoman noted.
After discovering the offer for herself, Catherine Carney, a professional home organiser from Kyneton in Victoria, shared the bargain she got last week on Facebook.
“I did dinner tonight for $2,” she wrote.
“25c bag of potatoes with cream and salt in the air fryer, an 82c bag of salad with mustard dressing and a free chook.”
Aussies who were just hearing about the hot roast chicken policy for the first time were in disbelief.
“WHAT???? What do you meeeeeean???” wrote one shocked woman.
“Tip of the year right here,” said another.
“What?! I’m always waiting for them to come out of the oven. Thank you for the tip!” penned a third.
