Hamish Blake has set himself the most ambitious challenge yet for the annual “cake night” event.

In accordance with “family law”, the Australian comedian, television and radio presenter must attempt to make any type of cake that his children demand on their birthday.

His son Sonny’s ninth birthday is fast approaching and he’s set his father the tricky task of making a cake that is also a functioning Rubik’s cube.

The Lego Masters presenter outlined his plan of attack in an Instagram video that immediately went viral.

“This is my son’s ninth birthday, he is very into Rubik’s cubing at the moment so he’s requested a Rubik’s cube cake.

“The kicker being, it moves... it moves just like a Rubik’s cube, like on all different axes.

“It’s a solvable cake.”

The podcast host said he’d been researching how to complete the task. And he believes it will be the world’s first solvable cake.

“Here’s a rough sketch,” he told the camera as he presented a blueprint for the masterpiece.

The sketch revealed he plans to make a “pretty bloody heavy” wooden base plane, with a figure nine as the base for the cake.

He’ll then have the Rubik’s cube, which will be made of marshmallow and Rice Bubbles, erected on a pole.

He also revealed that “not all” of the cake will be edible.

“It has cake components in it, but obviously the bits that move have to be something else.

“What are they? Well, I’ve learned a lot about 3D printing over the past week.

“After many trials... I’ll put the full pre-production in [Instagram] Stories, I now have a whole bunch of bits that will hopefully slot together to make the inside of the Rubik’s cube and the cake goes in that, we colour it up, it should be fine.

“There’s a lot of other technical stuff I won’t bore you with.”

The radio star is still uncertain if it will all come together.

“Can I do it? I actually think, probably not. See you then!”

The Aussie star has been making extravagant cakes for his children for seven years now and has gathered a huge online following. His latest plan is already creating excitement.

“OH GOD YES! It’s my favourite time of year.” Aussie comedian Celeste Barber wrote.

Kiwi musician Bret McKenzie wrote: “Can’t wait! Love cake night.”

Some of his previous cakes included references to Aladdin, Pikachu and Avatar.
