Fire, smoke on Gold Coast due to Tallebudgera Valley fire and hazard burns

Firefighters are battling a fire on the Gold Coast as the region experiences its first ‘very high’ danger rating for the season, with parts of the city sitting under a blanket of smoke.

FIREFIGHTERS are battling a fire at Tallebudgera Valley as the Gold Coast sits under a blanket of smoke.

Four crews were tasked to extinguish a vegetation fire at Tallebudgera Valley on Plaza Street at 12.55pm after reports of a fire on a hill.

It is understood the fire was a hazard reduction burn which required further attention.

Crews are still working on the blaze.

There is a thick smog in the air from the fire.

Meanwhile, there are hazard reduction burns taking place at the Canungra Defence Base and in Pacific Pines.
