Fire at First Ave in Surfers Paradise causes thick smoke to bellow across sky

A blaze in the heart of the Gold Coast has left residents baffled as the black smoke column sweeps across parts of the city.

A BLAZE in the heart of the Gold Coast has left residents baffled as the black smoke column sweeps across parts of the city.

Firefighters are currently on scene at the First Ave blaze in Surfers Paradise which was reported at 4.30pm.

It is a grass fire and there is no threat to residents or buildings at this point in time.

In a video provided to the Bulletin, the thick smoke can clearly be seen against the blue sky, with the person, Zachary Bell, asking if it is a building on fire.
