And the shopping options in Byron are generous, to say the least. Its free-spirited lifestyle cultivated in the area has attracted artists from all over to set up base on its sandy shores. The best places to shop in Byron Bay

Spell

Where: 15 Browning St, Byron Bay

You may know Spell already from Instagram (they have a huge following of over 1 million) or from their famous clientele (everyone from bloggers to Miley Cyrus), but you haven’t been immersed until you’re surrounded by racks and racks of their '60s-boho-hippie-dippie-festival(ish) clothing that fits the Byron aesthetic perfectly. The fashion label also helms The Gypsy Collective, a take on the Woodstock look that artists like Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix made famous so many years ago. By the time you walk out of their beachside store, you won’t even know if you’ve travelled back to the era of the flower power.

St. Agni

Where: 4 Acacia Street, Byron Bay

If you love Australian fashion, you would already be familiar with St. Agni, the chic leather footwear and clothing brand founded by Lara and Matt Fells. Stop by Industrial Estate, where a concept space run by the talented duo that houses their flagship St. Agni Boutique, fully reflecting the minimalist style that made them the go-to label that they’ve become famous for. While there, you can pick up a new pair of the brand’s handmade slides or a well-made and sustainable garment you’ll own and love forever.

Island Luxe

Where: 1/11 Marvell St, Byron Bay; 62 Byron St, Bangalow

Both the Byron Bay and Bangalow outposts of Island Luxe are worth a visit, even if the price tags give you heart palpitations (it’s ‘luxe’ for a reason). From the couches (all-leather ones run into the 10s of thousands) to the one-of-a-kind leather goods handmade in Greece, this homeware/fashion/accessory/gift shop is what interior dreams are made of. Even if you can’t go home with a piece of furniture, there are plenty of smaller items that will fit into your suitcase (and your budget). Step outside into the patio area of the Bangalow store for a wood-and-white wonderland.

Our Corner Store

Where: 1/36 Byron St, Bangalow

Your banal everyday necessities just got a whole lot nicer. Our Corner Store in Bangalow offers the best possible versions of your daily products from wardrobe basics and grooming products to vintage baseballs and twine. The store's core values of ethics and sustainability have led them to stock a vast luxurious collection of our most reached-for trinkets (and some we can be tempted to desperately need). Test your self-control and try not to make a purchase. On second thought, just give in—at least whatever you buy will be useful.

Bangalow Pharmacy

Where: 23 Byron St, Bangalow

Across the road from Our Corner Store is the Bangalow Pharmacy—but be warned, this is no ordinary pharmacy. This Parisian-looking pharmacy has the most charming display of too-pretty-to-use products, from hard-to-find French perfumes to chic toothbrushes (we didn’t know a toothbrush could be chic either). If you’re looking to be the envy of all your houseguests, with the most classy of bathroom closets to add to your arsenal of ‘cool girl items’, this is the perfect spot. And yes, they can still fulfil your prescription.

Hope & May

Where: Byron Bay

Selling clothing and interiors together must be a thing in Byron Bay—and we’re not complaining. Hope & May totally sells us on the dreamy beach house lifestyle. Live in your Mediterranean summer fantasies all year round with endless rattan finishes and pure cotton pieces, perfect to bring back a warm look to the home during those colder months. From poolside throw-overs to bed linen, we’d happily snap up all the bohemian glamour this place offers. (If only the weatherboard cottage came with it too.)

Tigmi Trading

Where: 13 Bayshore Drive, Byron Bay

A visit to Tigmi Trading is a must if interiors are what you’re after. Purveyor of artisanal décor, vintage and hard-to-find furniture, handmade rugs and a slew of other spectacular pieces for the home, Tigmi’s selection is enough to make even the least design-engaged person weak at the knees. Whether you decide to splurge or save your pennies, you won’t walk away empty handed—the inspiration you’ll glean from this stunning store is gift enough.
