Wedding guest’s white gown divides, leaves bride ‘upset’

A woman has defended wearing white to a friend’s wedding after being “confused” for the bride – but it sparked a fierce debate online.

Biggest wedding fails!

A wedding guest’s outfit has reignited the fierce debate about what you can, and more importantly can’t, wear to someone else’s big day.

The woman in question, Lana Kaufman, opted for a white crop top with billowing sleeves that flashed her midriff, paired with a matching white skirt.

But while she looked absolutely stunning in the two-piece set, fellow guest Kristina Drobach thought she’d crossed a line, taking to TikTok to ask for a second opinion.

“This girl wore a legit white dress to my friend’s wedding,” she said, alongside a video that showed the outfit at various points throughout the ceremony.

It clocked up over 14 million views, and the comments section quickly fired up, many declaring Lana’s outfit choice “unacceptable”.

The backlash later prompted Lana to issue a public response, while Kristina – who posts under the handle @drobach – shared a follow-up clip dishing details from the incident.

She explained the invitation noted there was a colour palette for guests to choose from that matched the couple’s “forest fairy” theme.

“Suggestions on colour included green, brown, beige – earthy colours,” she said.

“Therefore I personally picked a green dress. But when we got to the wedding, we got there a little bit late, and everybody was talking about this lady wearing a gown.

“Nobody told her there because they didn’t want to ruin the wedding and the vibe, but everybody was talking about it.”

'How dare she': Wedding guest's shocking outfit

Kristina went on to explain that before the bride had emerged, a worker at the venue asked if Lana was the bride.

“There were multiple people that confused this lady with the bride because she looked like one,” she continued.

“So the bride was extremely upset when she saw this lady wearing a gown, even before she’d walked down the aisle.”

However, two others also who wore a white dress, including the groom’s mum, which Kristina said was “acceptable” and a fellow guest who opted for a short, skin-tight “bandage” number described as “not super cool but fine”.

“This particular lady wore a full on gown that looked like a legit wedding dress,” Kristina added.

“And I think it’s pretty well known around the world that you’re not supposed to outshine the bride or wear white, especially a white gown, it’s just ethical standards.”

Since the video blew up, Lana has responded with her own video, claiming she “picked white from four dress code colours” – however this fell flat with social media users.

“My friend had white on their colour palette. When I asked, they said it was part of the colour theme for their wedding, but to obviously not wear white,” one frustrated user said.

“Even if white was on the colour palette I would’ve assumed it’s like the pattern can include white but not the base colour,” another lamented.

Others labelled the dress “tacky” and Lana’s decision to wear it as “insane”.

“How dare she,” one woman raged.

“I would have told her to leave,” another stated.

While one declared: “Wtf, the audacity.”

However, some defended Lana’s outfit, suggesting Kristina and the internet pile on were “trying got make something out of nothing”.

“Who cares,” one agreed.

“In the grand scheme of things, this is just not important,” someone else mused.

“Am I the only one that wouldn’t care if someone wore white to my wedding??? I’m really secure & wouldn’t let that ruin my time,” one said.

However, some just couldn’t shake how “bridal” Lana’s dress appeared, stating they would have told her to go home.

“I’m problematic so I would have walked up and said ‘change now’,” one said.

“No white or in most instances black at a wedding. Red is not good either!” someone else agreed.

As one declared: “I cannot believe no one quietly told her to leave. That’s insane.”
