MAFS star responds to furore over nude Fashion Week outfit

A reality star’s nearly-naked Fashion Week look has caused a stir after she revealed she was wearing a “banned” item to the Sydney event.

A popular reality star has hit back at critics who slammed her decision to wear “vintage fur” at Australian Fashion Week (AFW) after it was banned by organisers.

Carina Mirabile, who appeared on the most recent season of Married At First Sight, was one of the many faces to attend the prestigious annual event this week, which is being led by the Australian Fashion Council (AFC) for the first time after long-running partner IMG pulled out.

As part of AFW’s new look, the AFC introduced a policy this year which banned all wildlife-derived materials, including fur, exotic animal skins, and feathers from the week-long fashion event.

But on day three, Mirabile turned heads when she showed up in a Kim Kardashian inspired outfit, wearing a corset style bodysuit over a pair of shorts and skin tone stockings.

She paired it with nude, pointed heels and an oversized “vintage fur” coat that Mirabile said she purchased in New York.

As a result, her jacket quickly sparked controversy.

Bailey, who runs Warrior for Animals, said Mirabile was “deliberately” in “defiance” of the rule and an official complaint had been made.

Meanwhile, other social media users said: “Please do NOT glamorise fur. Even if it is fake fur you are still making a statement that it is OK. It’s not OK. Think before you post.”

“Real fur in this day and age? Seriously?? Shame on you,” one said.

Another added: “Fur coats are not cute. I think the fur has made this ugly. There is nothing pretty or glamorous about the fur industry. Nothing about fur is ever sustainable, ethically sourced or cruelty free. It’s all BS. I can’t believe that even after AFW banned animal skins, you still have the audacity to rock up in that.”

In response, Mirabile has clapped back, taking to her Instagram comments and stories to defend herself.

“It’s not real fur FYI,” she said, adding a face palm emoji.

“And my hairstylist uses vegan products.”

In another Instagram Story, she said the coat was “vintage”.

news.com.au contacted Carina Mirabile for further comment.

Kim Kardashian recently donned a similar look, wearing a full bodysuit over a fur coat. Both women had their hair slicked back. It’s not the first time Mirabile has been compared to the OG queen of reality TV.

Under another post, someone said: “Why you trying to be like the Kardashians?”

Mirabile had previously attended the opening night of AFC Australian Fashion Week, being spotted at the Carla Zampatti show with her mother.

The pair were filmed getting ready in their hotel room at the Intercontinental Double Bay.

“You’re beautiful, really are wonderful personality,” one said.

Another added: “Beautiful lady.”

“Sooo much fun,” another social media user commented.

“Beautiful. Kind ladies thank you for choosing faux fur in your shoot,” one added.

Someone else said: “Gorgeous mumma and daughter duo. Love your style Carina.”

“It’s giving Kris & Kim K,” another posted.

One follower simply declared: “Queens.”

Mirabile rose to fame on the Channel 9 reality show, however an alleged incident involving her groom Paul Antoine caused many people to call out the program.

Antoine allegedly punched a hole in the wall after Mirabile revealed she had an intimate relationship with an American rapper ahead of her appearance on the series.

At the time, NSW Police confirmed the matter had been referred to officers from South Sydney Police Area Command, but details of the investigation remain scarce.

“The matter has been referred to officers from South Sydney Police Area Command, who have commenced an investigation,” a NSW Police spokesman told NewsWire.

“As the investigation is current, police will not be making any further comment in relation to the matter.”
