Model Rebecca Judd has once again taken to social media to claim her swanky suburb is in the grip of a crime wave.

Last year she said she felt “unsafe” in Brighton, in Melbourne’s south east.

“Same s**t, different night,” she posted on Instagram on Wednesday evening.

The AFL WAG, who owns a multimillion dollar mansion in the seaside suburb with husband Chris Judd, complained after another resident of Brighton said he had his car stolen with his dog still inside.

Channel 7 reported that Richard Buxton drove his car to a supermarket in Brighton, in the local government area of Bayside, to buy some bread and milk on Wednesday.

While he was inside, his Mercedes with his cavoodle Moe was stolen.

“As I was walking past the cash register, I could see the car and I saw someone in it,” Mr Buxton told Channel 7.

“As soon as I got within three metres, the engine started, bang, he reversed and sped off down Were Street at 100 miles an hour at least.”

Police arrested two men at 11.45am after a collision in Oakleigh East. They were not in the Mercedes but police believe they are linked to that car.

At that point neither the dog nor the car had been found.

As part of an Instagram story, Judd highlighted a post from a women who said the dog was still missing. Thankfully, Moe has now been returned to the Buxton family.

The post also included an allegation of another incident where its claimed an attempted car theft had taken place.

“Same s***, different night. I’m well aware this isn’t just happening in Bayside,” Judd added to the post.

She cited plans in Queensland to crack down on youth crime.

“It’s time the Victorian Government did the same,” she wrote before adding a link for people to contact their MP, “if you have strong feelings on the issue”.

Judd’s LGA safer than most in Melbourne

According to Victoria’s Crime Statistics Agency, Bayside Council recorded 3688 criminal incidents in the year to September 2022. That was up 7.5 per cent on the previous years.

There were 3561 incidents per 100,000 people in the council area. But that’s well below the Victorian average of 5218 criminal incidents per 100,000 people.

Indeed while crime is up in Bayside, the LGA has one of the lowest crime rates in Melbourne.

Within Bayside, Brighton had the most criminal incidents at 857 in the year with theft from a motor vehicle being the top offence with 721 incidents.

In May, Judd claimed that nothing was being done about, “rapes, bashings and home invasions,” at the hands of “gangs,” roaming wealthy Bayside.

“I personally know two women who have experienced home invasions in Brighton in the last few weeks while they were at home,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

She said she felt “unsafe” in her neighbourhood and the Victorian Government didn’t “seem to care”.

Ms Judd copped backlash for complaining about safety in the affluent suburb, where she bought a $7.3 million mansion in 2019 and then began renovations.

At the time, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said he wasn’t, “interested in having an argument with Ms Judd”.

“I’m also obliged to point out though, I think there are more than 70 additional police in the Bayside area, and the most recent crime statistics released by an independent agency would not support those sweeping assessments about patterns of crime.

“I say this respectfully to Bec Judd, or anybody – I don’t want anybody to feel unsafe,” he said.

“I’m sorry she feels that way. The data would tell a different story, but it is about personal feelings and your sense of safety.

“I hope that knowing those things, or perhaps learning those things, puts her mind at ease.”

Andrew Bogut back Judd’s claims

Former Australian NBA player Andrew Bogut has echoed Judd’s fears over rampant crime in Bayside.

Last month, Mr Bogut posted on Twitter that residents were “sitting ducks in their own homes”.

He started his Twitter thread by reminding people about the time Ms Judd “got smashed” for speaking out about crime in the area and criticising the Victorian Government.

He said one Bayside street where his family members lived had been hit six times in the last few months with home invasions.

“One old fella had a gun pulled on him recently,” he said.

“The police who attended my families home said this is pretty common in the area.”
