Roxy Jacenko has come under fire after she shared an Instagram post promoting fur products.

The Sydney businesswoman shared a post on Thursday of her trying on different furs from Sydney company Furella.

“Trying some new @furella_official pieces on this morning – obsessed with the trench but also love the crop – thoughts?” Roxy captioned the now-deleted post.

While her post got some people praising the “gorgeous” looks, the majority of commenters said it was “very disappointing” that Roxy was promoting fur.

“I usually love your style but this one is (thumbs down emoji) faux would be better,” one person wrote.

“I hope it’s fake fur … please don’t support real fur,” another commented.

“Come on Roxy someone in such a privileged public position can make better choices,” one person commented. “I have always been a huge supporter of yours but I find this terribly upsetting.”

“WTF is wrong with you!? This is REAL FUR!!!!” one person wrote.

In response to the backlash, Furella told news.com.au they “understand and respect people’s own choices and opinions about whether they choose to wear fur products”.

“We don’t however believe Roxy or anyone should be verbally attacked or bullied online,” the brand said in a statement.

“Many of these people who are quick to judge also consume animal products as well as buy leather products such as leather shoes, belts and handbags, drive cars with leather seats and wear products such as UGG boots which are all made in much the same way as fur products are made.”

News.com.au has also contacted Roxy for comment.

World Animal Protection’s head of campaigns Ben Pearson labelled Roxy’s post “shameful” and claimed she needed to “read the room” when it came to fur.

“The use of fox fur in fashion is no longer trendy or acceptable,” he said.

“As a result of changing consumer attitudes, we see celebrities and the fashion industry moving away from fur and exotic skins, with brands like Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Vivienne Westwood and Tommy Hilfiger banning the use of wild animals in their products and shifting to humane alternatives, while Roxy fills her closet with fox fur coats and crocodile skin handbags.

“It’s grotesque.”

Mr Pearson said the organisation had already written to Roxy about her crocodile handbags and they “repeat the invite to have a conversation with us on ways she can be more wildlife fashion friendly”.
