Pip Edwards sets the record straight on Under the Gloss with Phoebe Burgess

“I know I’m a kind, lively, gregarious human. And all I get labelled as is who I’m dating, who I have dated and who I potentially might be dating.”

“I’ve only ever been a worker, I’ve only ever put my son first. I know I’m a kind, lively, gregarious human. And all I get labelled as is who I’m dating, who I have dated and who I potentially might be dating.”

In this week's Under the Gloss podcast episode, host Phoebe Burgess sits down with Pip Edwards, founder and director of streetwear and activewear brand P.E Nation, to discuss what makes a woman powerful, the pressures single mothers shoulder, how the media portrays her and much more. Vulnerable, honest and classically chaotic, Phoebe and Pip sit down and “talk the real shit.”

On what makes a woman powerful:

“One of the most crucial things of today: What makes a powerful woman? If I answered that question five years ago, three years ago, six months ago, it would be different to what I think is powerful. And what’s powerful is actually, actually listening to your body. It deserves the right to a break because it works so fucking hard.”

On raising a child:

“This young man [Edwards’ son] is so well-rounded, and maybe over the years I’ve overcompensated for what I thought he lacked or what I thought I didn’t bring him and all these things. Actually, I just had to be me.”

On setting the record straight:

“I’ve only ever been a worker, I’ve only ever put my son first. I know I’m a kind, lively, gregarious human that is so curious about life, that loves new people and new scenarios—I’m inspired by all of that. And all I get labelled as is who I’m dating, who I have dated and who I potentially might be dating. It’s really sad that that’s what they [the media] have picked up on, and they’ve missed out on this whole chunk of stuff that I am now starting to feel proud of, which I might not have even recognised.”

On vulnerability:

“And maybe I want to take responsibility in projecting a kind of attitude that I am fiercely independent and strong and all these things, which are absolutely characteristics that I have. The reality is there’s a really vulnerable little girl that’s raised a little boy.”
