NewJeans’ musical catalogue has been inventive and unique right from their first single Attention in 2022, through to their latest releases Super Shy and ETA—and keeping pace with their innovative sound is their sartorial offerings.
Band stylist Choi Yumi pulls from a seemingly endless treasure trove of modern fashion, and styles the NewJeans members—Danielle, Minji, Hyein, Haerin and Hanni—in the most fashion-forward pieces from contemporary powerhouses, like Kiko Kostadinov, Shushu/Tong, Y/Project and Cecilie Bahnsen. Favouring bold, striking statement pieces that unapologetically take up space, Yumi is dedicated to cementing NewJeans as the latest head It-girls of K-pop. Furry boots, sports jerseys, buckles, cargos. You name it, NewJeans has already made it look cool.
Even when not professionally dressed, the girls have a trained eye for putting together outfits. From airport fashion to Instagram photoshoots, you can expect to see modish brands, experimental silhouettes, pops of eye-catching colour and styling with an all-around effortless aura. While it's clear that different members favour different looks, all members dabble in both the radical and the refined, the experimental and the elegant.
Youngest member Hyein and vocalist Hanni are big fans of lively reds, cool oversized button-ups and tees, and the occasional pair of funky patterned tights. On the other end of the sartorial spectrum are rapper Minji and Australian-born member Danielle, who tend to opt for more feminine pieces, tailored shapes and cosy hues from Miu Miu, Chanel, Celine and Burberry. Then there’s lead dancer Haerin, whose classically stylish outfits are often set against punkish, modern accents that demonstrate her keen mastery of the trends du jour.
But even with their distinct interpretations of personal style, the NewJeans formula, all things considered, is fairly simple. Bold pieces, contemporary designers, and the confidence to pull it all off, equals It-girl status.
Ahead, we document all of our favourite NewJeans outfits to date.
