Thousands of punters crammed through the turnstiles at Royal Randwick for the TAB Everest today, with model Simone Holtznagel stealing the show in a stunning white dress.
The Everest makes headlines around the world for being the richest race on turf, with 12 sprinters competing in a 1200 metre race for over $15 million in prize money.
But, it is also one of the spring racing carnival’s premiere fashion days featuring celebrities such as Simone, who wore a stunning Marilyn Monroe-esque dress.
The white frock – which bucked this year’s blue hues theme – featured a halter neck design with an open back.
The mini dress cinched in at the waste before creating an A-line skirt.
Simone paired the stunning frock with a large white brimmed hat with straps to draw attention to her neck.
She wore elbow length white gloves, a small handbag and simple white heels to complete the statement piece.
With The Everest, guests were encouraged to incorporate a touch of light blue, in keeping with traditions, and while some embraced the trend others chose to stand out.
Farmer Wants A Wife’s Samantha Armytage stunned in a fuchsia high neck dress with a pop of blue and orange on the collar.
She completed the look with pointed orange heels and a light blue fascinator, adding her own style to the theme perfectly.
The Seven presenter, who covers racing, told the Daily Telegraph last week that she genuinely loves The Everest.
“I love the sprint down the straight at Royal Randwick. All that horsepower. It is like the 100 metre final at the Olympics for me,” she said.
Kerri-Anne Kennerley kept in theme with her ensemble as she arrived at Royal Randwick Racecourse.
She included blue in each part of her ensemble, mixing it with white, silver and grey tones.
Her sequin jacket stole the show, making her cerulean blue dress pop underneath.
Natalie Barr also wore white, pairing her dress with a statement neckline that flipped back over on itself with a hat that had a ribbon tied around it.
7 Racing presenters Emma Freedman and Grace Hayden both dressed to the nines for their roles in Saturday’s coverage.
Emma wore a high neck deep blue design, which was made to standout with a pop of red by her fascinator, while Grace Hayden wore a button up pink dress from Leo Lin.
Fashion designer Lillian Khallouf included light blue into her ensemble by wearing a small, light blue netted fascinator.
In terms of suits, journalist Mark Beretta wore a cobalt blue suit with a statement tie that appeared to feature First Nations designs.
The colour made her eyes and hair pop, as well as keeping in theme of the day.
Swimmer Emma McKeon is an ambassador for 2022’s Everest race.
She took to Instagram following the announcement, writing: “I’m excited to announce that I’m this year’s official Everest Day Ambassador for Sydney’s biggest race day at Royal Randwick on October 15.
Cannot wait to get dressed up and see who takes out the world’s richest turf race. Join me trackside for a fun day out!”
On the big day she wore a strapless and floorlength white dress with a blue floral design print, which she paired with a dainty jewelled headband.
Emma even incorporated blue into the strap of her watch for the occasion.
Seven News Sydney presenter Mark Ferguson and television presenter James Tobin were also present at The Everest.
Model Nikki Phillips, similar to Lillian and Simone, worse a beautiful white dress to the race day, making it pop with a large blue statement hat.
Sports journalist Mel Mclaughlin also wore all white, but with a stunning twist.
The presenter wore a white three piece suit, complete with a form fitting button up vest, straight leg trousers and a blazer jacket with gold accents.
The ensemble had a stunning contrast to Mel’s simple makeup look and long, dark hair.
Former Married At First Sight star, entrepreneur and mother Jules Robinson went for an 80s inspired look, with an exposed back, puffy sleeves and tulle blue gloves that matched her netted fascinator that included pearl accents.
The reality star has become a fashion icon as she has repeatedly rocked stunning looks since leaving the show, with her Everest outfit no different.
Weekend Sunrise presenter Sally Bowrey also almost completely bucked the white and blue trend that appeared to be forming at the event.
Instead, she wore her blonde hair in a ponytail at the nape of her heck, pairing it with an orange dress that had blood orange tassels at the bottom, making the dress pop.
She added a blue clutch bag to keep in touch with the theme.
Meanwhile, one of Australian television’s most well known presenters – Sonia Kruger – wore a one shoulder relaxed white dress with a pair of sunglasses and a statement handbag.
The 57-year-old – who owns dance-based fitness program Strictly You – showed off the results of her hard work in her outfit with her sculpted arms on show.
As Sydneysiders enjoy the sun at The Everest, in Melbourne Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup Day kicks off.
At Caulfield there is a Champagne House presented by Moët & Chandon as a dining experience takes place with St Hubert’s Place.
Nadia Bartel, the woman behind fashion label Henne, was among some of the revellers.
She too, as seemed to be the fashion choice of the day, wore a high neck white dress that fell above her knees with long sleeves.
She completed the look with subtle makeup and a white headband.
There has been a major change to Spring Racing’s Fashion on the Fields competition with, for the first time ever, the Victoria Racing Club ditching its gendered categories.
In 2022, the women’s and men’s racewear competitions will instead be the best dressed and best suited awards, with all genders encouraged to enter either category based on their unique personal style.
VRC chairman Neil Wilson said: “In celebration of Myer Fashions on the Field’s 60th anniversary and its return to Flemington, we are ensuring that our fashion story drives equality, inclusion and individuality as we set course for the next 60 years.
“We proudly embrace the notion that fashion and style are an expression of individual creativity and believe this should be reflected in the international event.”
This isn’t the only new addition. For the first time there will be a chance for a finalist in both categories to represent New Zealand in the Myer Fashions on the Field National Final.
Online entries for Fashion on the Fields open from September 1 but there will also be fashion-spotters encouraging people to enter on the day.
A Best Dressed and Best Suited racewear winner will be selected on Penfolds Victoria Derby Day, Lexus Melbourne Cup Day and Kennedy Oaks Day, going straight into the national final alongside a number of Australian states and territories and New Zealand finalists.
The overall winner will be announced at the Kennedy Oaks Day on November 3.
Winners and finalists of Myer’s Fashions on the Field competition will have a variety of prizes up for grabs, such as from Myer and Sofitel Melbourne on Collins.
The overall winners of the Best Dressed and Best Suited categories will each receive a brand-new Lexus UX 200 2WD Luxury vehicle.
