Dressing on trend for the new season doesn’t have to break the bank, with some of Australia’s most stylish designers revealing their secrets to refreshing your wardrobe – at a fraction of the cost.
Ahead of Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out, Aje creative director Adrian Norris said the key to mixing high and low pieces was to choose one “hero” item to style the outfit around.
“I would suggest you start with your one hero piece, whether it’s a party dress or a great blazer and build your outfit around that,” Norris said.
“Each of our garments are designed with thoughtfulness and intention, there is a unique effort into the design and craftsmanship. It’s about investing in detail and quality.”
Aje and its activewear line, Aje Athletica, are two of the brands involved in this year’s Vogue
American Express Fashion’s Night Out, with special events on in Sydney and Melbourne.
They join Pip Edwards’ brand P.E. Nation, as well as Rebecca Vallance, bassike, H&M and Cue as part of the annual Vogue-backed annual retail event.
Reflecting on this season’s trends, Edwards, co-founder and creative cirector, P.E. Nation – said she was “really into baggier, low-slung bottoms which you can dress up with heels and a blazer or down with a cap and oversized earrings”.
“For everyday, I’ll wear mine with either an oversized tee tucked at the front, or a crop and sweater for a sportier style,” Edwards said.
“Black is of course timeless, so pairing foundational P.E. Nation pieces like crops, leggings and bike shorts in black or block colourways with some fun pops of colour or trend-driven seasonal pieces will give you the best of both worlds,” she added.
Edwards said her brand had introduced a line of basics, dubbed P.E. Nation Basline, “to ensure we can offer pieces at a more accessible price point”.
Though, much like Norris, Edwards’ own go-to approach for dressing is to pair a “mix of high and low”. “Start with your statement brand pieces and team them back with basic silhouettes where you can save a little,” she said.
Speaking ahead of the event, Vogue Australia editorial director and publisher Edwina McCann said this year’s Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out “will be a very special celebration of shopping, fashion and beauty”.
